Tinie Tempah

The undisputed breakout star of 2010 and man of the moment... Oh yes it’s Tinie Tempah! With a string of number one singles, MOBOS and Brits under his belt, this man can do no wrong and we are pretty darn excited to have him on the BBL bill!
White Lies

A dark-edged trio hailing from London, White Lies take sonic cues from the likes of Joy Division, the Teardrop Explodes, and Echo & the Bunnymen. After releasing two neo-Brit-pop singles on the Young and Lost Club label in 2006 - "Routemaster" (produced by Brit-pop mainstay Stephen Street) and "Three's a Crowd" -- the trio changed musical directions, adopted a new name, adapted a more sombre group persona, and began creating more doomy material… Expect a super tight set complete with thundering drums, bellowing vocals and air punching choruses as White Lies treat you to an unforgettable beach side performance. Marvellous!
Magnetic Man (Live)

...So heavy we had to bring them in by boat, we present to you the three shining lights of dubstep, Skream, Benga and Artwork joining forces to create the super group trio that is Magnetic Man (live). Taking dubstep out of the basement clubs and to the shores of South Wales, this performance not only includes the three kings themselves but an insane live show.
Professor Green

Trading his urban jungle for the beach this June will be London rap sensation Professor Green. Dubbed the British Eminem and recent NME award winner, the east London youngster has gone from strength to strength.
Littering his lyrics with wry pop references, a sharp sense of humour and honesty rarely found in rap music right now, Professor Green is one of the most exciting talents to emerge from 2010 and we can’t wait for him to hit Beach Break!
Example

Elliot John Gleave, better known by his stage name Example, is an English singer and rapper Signed to Data Records. His name arose due to his initials being e.g. which is a common abbreviation for the Latin phrase "exempli gratia", which means "for example"... OOH check him out! Gleave made his breakthrough in 2010, when he released his second album, Won't Go Quietly; which spawned the singles "Watch the Sun Come Up", "Won't Go Quietly", "Last Ones Standing" and "Kickstarts" - all of which peaked within the top 40 in the United Kingdom. We can’t wait!
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs

Unbelievably, we are going to see some Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs in Wales this year. These party monsters swing between overt musicality and scarily on-point dance floor sensibility, ripping up clubs around the globe with a live show of bizarre instruments, glitter cannons and, of course, dancing dinosaurs.
His second single, the 'All In Two Sixty Dancehalls EP' has just been released on Greco-Roman and has thrust TEED into the spotlight.
We Are Scientists

Oh yes... New York’s most charming indie band, the epic, We Are Scientists! Brace yourself for a truly infectious performance complete with super catchy guitar riffs, hilarious antics and bags of personality as the Brooklyn boys give it some serious welly!

Newton Faulkner

What’s that sound... it’s acoustic guitar like we’ve never heard it played before! It’s a throaty but gentle blues croon that speaks of backwoods, beaches and the badlands of, ah, Surrey and its t*u*n*e*s. Faulkner wants to move us, and himself, with his music. It’s his inventiveness that made this 20 something one of the most buzzed-about DIY artists of 2006. With no promotion and bugger-all money his first release, Fat EP, reached Number One on Amazon’s singles chart. The shuffling beats; the laidback scat singing; the ‘tapping’ of strings have struck a chord with anyone who has stumbled across his shows, causing the low-key release to sell-out its 3000 copies. Since then Mr Faulkner has gone from strength to strength, playing sell out gigs here, there and everywhere, and we are honored and excited to have him grace the BBL stage for 2011.
Ed Sheeran

Ed got his break in the crazy world of professional musicality as a roadie with Nizlopi ('JCB Song'). "I did a cover of one of their tracks on YouTube which they saw and liked. They invited me to join them on tour and I learnt everything I know about singing, song-writing and live music from them. As a toddler to a teenager he was hugely influenced hearing his parents play the likes of The Beatles, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell and Planxty on road trips. His musical cauldron has been further spiced by other personal favourites like Foy Vance, Nizlopi and anything with hip hop credentials. Despite his hectic diary leaving little time to study, Ed managed to bag his GCSE's, including five A's and an A*. He’s also an expert jewellery maker!

Beardyman

Beardyman is awesome... He has won pretty much every Beatbox title there is to win and in June 2007, he became the first beatboxer in UK history to win the national championships twice in a row. In 2009 he won the award for Best Mc/Vocalist at the world-renowned breakbeat awards ceremony Breakspoll. As well as being a world-class solo human-beatbox, he uses his voice and live synths, driven through cutting-edge sound-mangling technology to create dance-inducing layered rhythms, breath-taking soundscapes, fully produced songs and tunes, often totally improvised and all created entirely from scratch.
Frankie & The Heartstrings

Frankie and the Heartstrings are indebted to a lineage of vintage indie bands like Pulp, Orange Juice and The Smiths, they make retro-romantic anthems full of swooning and crooning that impressed Florence Welch so much, she even asked the fledgling group to support her on her recent tour.
Yasmin

Aged 21, Yasmin has already crammed several successful careers into one short lifetime. International DJ, respected hip-hop club runner and occasional radio show host, she has supported N*E*R*D, toured Europe with Eve, opened Ibiza Rocks for Dizzee Rascal, played Glastonbury and had a Top 15 hit with Devlin. Now in the midst of the most exciting explosion of young British music in years, she’s about to make her mark as a recording artist in her own right. With a nod to the cooler, beat-driven pop of the 1990s but a contemporary sound that’s all her own, tracks like debut single ‘On My Own’ (made with Shy FX) and the upcoming ‘Finish Line’ (made with Labrinth) confirm the arrival of a major new talent.
Jamie Woon

London, England native Jamie Woon, the son of background vocalist Mae McKenna, debuted in 2006 with a startling folk-soul a cappella update of "The Wayfaring Stranger." Initially issued as a one-sided 12" single, the song was released again the following February with an original, "Gravity," and a pair of remixes, including one by dubstep innovator Burial. BBC Radio DJ Gilles Peterson selected the acappella version for his second Brownswood Bubblers compilation, released later that year, which significantly raised the musician's profile. Fusing dubstep beats and house grooves with his rich bluesy vocals to delightful effect, his recent single ‘Night Air’, which was produced by Burial, has marked him out as a definite one to watch for 2011 and we are very excited to welcome him to the BBL bill!
Ash Grunwald

We’re overly excited to welcome one of Australia’s better exports to our shores. This solo phenomenon is hard to describe but think Sea Sick Steve on steroids. “Fish Out Of Water” is a genre-defying record that is set to take the Australian bluesman to the next level. The thrilling hybrid of styles captured on the album will delight fans of quality Australian music and cement Grunwald’s growing status as one of our most talented and exciting performers, a reputation that’s been building over the past four albums and countless shows on the road, and a reputation that is also spreading globally.
Maverick Sabre

London born, Irish raised MC & singer songwriter Maverick Sabre is breaking the mould. His soulful voice and skilful guitar playing draws audiences in and leaves them in wonder, whilst his social commentary silences crowds. Maverick is picking up awards and headed for big things. Enjoy.
The Milk

Northern Soul rebels The Milk’s have a generation spanning approach to tune busting which commands the feet to dance and the face to smile. Produced by Nextmen DJ-remixer Brad Baloo, their tracks flow from one to the next via whiffs of hip-hop and dance. Something of Plan B and something else of Dexys, watch out for the debut single ‘(all I wanted was) DANGER’ coming out later in March.
Florrie

Florrie originally from Bristol, UK, is a drummer, singer and songwriter. Whilst her solo career is preceded by pop pedigree having drummed for Aleshia Dixon and Girls Aloud, Florrie is now doing everything on her own terms. Expect a performance alternating between drum solos, guitar playing, singing and back to the drums, whilst surrounding imagery channels Marilyn Monroe. Florrie is taking a circuitous route to pop stardom and we hope you’ll enjoy being part of it.

Will & The People

Will and the People is more than just a band. They are a way of life. Living, rehearsing, being together, they are on a journey beyond the realms of conventional popular music. Will and the People have percolated into the gaps of the live music scene in the UK with their own unique sound, honest and fresh… The band have naturally created their vibrations through a shared vivacity for all types of music… Though they will proudly state their main influence as being Bob Marley and his Wailers, the sound they make is thoroughly theirs. A solid band of individual talent combines them, and their forthcoming self titled debut album confirms and proves, with 11 irrefutable reasons, why Will and the People are still rising, despite their lack of conformity to the music industry around them.
The Chapman Family

Formed in 2005 around the talents of Kingsley, Paul, Pop, and Phil Chapman, the Chapman Family play a unique blend of folk-inspired hardcore punk, new wave, and indie rock that grew out of the band's home in northeast England. The group's first show on May 5, 2006, led to 250 more in the ensuing years, as well as appearances on various compilations and local, national, and international airplay. Known for their visceral live shows (the band's equipment is often reduced to rubble by the end of the night), the Chapman Family released their debut single in 2008 on Don't Tell Clare Records. These boys will give it some serious welly.
Rodney Branigan

Rodders has been playing guitar since his hands were big enough to handle it and is bringing his magical blend of rock, folk, flamenco, madrigal, classical, bluegrass and jazz to BBL shores. Brother & Bones

Recently described as ‘Mumford & Sons meets The Dead Weather’ Brother & Bones bridge the gap between the delicate and the destructive. Amongst the barrage of a drumming-duo and a full-blooded 5-piece band line-up there is, somehow, a space perfectly left for finger picked acoustic guitar and a fiery-warm vocal. The songs have the kind of honest appeal that will set them apart, and stand them next to The National and Laura Marling’s, but delivered with a steam-train live show. A journey from rootsy, folk-blues to 2011, Brother & Bones are one of the new breed, flying the flag for uncompromised, real music. In short, Brother & Bones have that rare ability to take you all the way outside yourself, and right down to your roots at the same time.
Frontiers

Formed in 2008, Nottingham quartet Frontiers, fall between Interpol and early Cure on the post-punk continuum, blending gritty aggression and reverb-drenched ambience to enviable effect. Festival appearances at Reading and Leeds, Camden Crawl, as well as support slots with fellow 2011 BBLers We Are Scientists, combined with consistent regional and national radio play as a result of working with Alan Smyth (Pulp, Arctic Monkeys) this fabulous foursome are cemented as one of the region's most promising acts. Bring it on!
Winter Hours

With more atmospheric presence than yonder space, this unique four piece from Winchester will blow your flip-flops off with their dreamy, delicate but at times epic, performance. A hearty hug to their Americana rock brothers and sisters and a slap on the back to their folk compadres, Winterhours are your musical boat to sail you off to tuneful bliss.

Mark Ronson

This music aficionado’s first instrument was the drums at the age of 5, first played in a band at the tender age of 14, and started spinning the turntables at 18, making him one all round talented maker of the music. Born in London but left for the bright lights of New York City when he was eight, he considers himself to be more English than American. This is proven in his collaborations with Britain’s finest: Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse and Robbie Williams to name but a few. But don’t worry; he loves the international big names too and has won three Grammy awards for his epic efforts. Nice!

Operating at the forefront of the scene, he’s played all over the globe, become part of the Full Cycle family, launched his own Audio Zoo label and been responsible for some of the genre’s most essential releases of recent years. For a lively mash up of beats, this is the place to be for a good old rave up!
Marc Roberts

Clout!

When it comes to writing music, 5 piece experimental outfit CLOUT! don't do things by the book. In order to create their sweet blend of "what the fuck is this" inducing harmonies they each write a little chunk of tune on their own and send it on to the next band member via email. After the track has been passed round enough times, someone masters it and that's pretty much that. Sounds problematic right? Seemingly not as the quality of CLOUT!'s output establishes.

Dr Meaker

Dr Meaker is one of Bristol's prize assets. Led by Clive Meaker, Dr Meaker released their debut long player 'A Lesson From The Speaker' in November 2008, a record mixed in the same studios as Portishead’s ‘Dummy’ and released on their own record label Flightcase. DJ Parker

If Knighthoods were given out for contributions to crowd rocking, Parker would be curtseying in front of the Queen come New Year. As it is, plaudits range from Massive Attack to DJ Yoda. Royalty indeed! First starting his rise smashing chumps via DJ battles, Bristol's Parker soon turned his hand to production gaining "lofty comparisons to the marvellous RJD2". The luscious beats and driving Funk of his 'To Eternity' LP garnered rave reviews and wide critical acclaim. Lead single 'Sugar Coated' was MTV-playlisted, while 'Western Soul', featuring San Francisco legend, Rasco, devastated dance floors. THE GHETTO BLASTER
SBTRKT

SBTRKT is an anonymous producer based in London. Graciously allowing the music to speak for itself - even going to the length of performing behind a mask every time he plays out. Having just wrapped up remixes for Basement Jaxx (‘Scars’) and Franz Ferdinand (‘Send Him Away’), he’s got the airwaves in a stir with Benji B, Mary Anne Hobbs and Gilles Peterson singing his praises. If you want to find out this masked future of garage’s big secret (I know we do) then come see what all the fuss is about …
Drums of Death

Hotly tipped by Hot Chip and signed to their record label and party crew: Greco-Roman. Stories quickly began to emerge in the press that he was cursed by some voodoo magic and had his heart cut out and replaced with a broken drum machine!! Whilst keeping his real face a secret with black and white paint and refusing to answer rumours about this curse he performed on stages around the world from Los Angeles to Bangkok, to London to Berlin and everywhere in between. As his reputation for ferocious solo performances grew, there appeared whispers about a live band and an album. This is one is for a dark, dark night beneath the stars and in front of the pounding ghetto blaster

BOY 8-BIT’s name and music may be on everyone’s lips and ears right now but even if it’s only the spiralling, super-melodic masterpiece ‘Baltic Pine’ – championed by everyone from Pete Tong and Fake Blood to Cassius and Annie Mac – that you know, there’s an awful lot more to be seen and heard from this Boy – AKA DJ/producer David Morris – in the weeks and months ahead. Indeed, there’s a brilliant brand new double-header called “The Keep’/’Restricted 18’ on This Is Music incoming. Both tracks bristle with bonkers energy and hooks the size of South Dakota. But despite his not inconsiderable success in the electronic world already, not that much is known about this self-confessed former rock junkie from Penzance.
