Who We Are - The Story
How It All Came About

We can’t believe we are in our 6th year…From a dream and a shocked looking bank manager (who told us in no uncertain terms where to go!), to the sun kissed days of the musical tea party for a few hundred revellers in 2007, onto our brief foray into TV stardom on the Dragons den, to the near miss of the infamous ‘Zoo Break Live’ and now the 20,000 sold out spectacle on one of the most stunning Beaches in the UK, its been…. a journey!
The idea was to bring together everything we love about festivals, find a sandy beach and create a new breed of festival, for students to celebrate the end of exams and the beginning of summer, where great music, frivolous fun and a strong sense of community are at the heart of it all. Here’s how it all came together (we will keep this area up to date with current adventures)
2007 - Beachside Debut

Musings began between friends at Uni. A few years on and we decided to get the ball rolling… got a note pad, went looking for a festival site, oh and staff, and venues and bands and ... well lots of things! The learning curve began. There’s a whole host of stuff that goes into this; Sleep deprivation, serenity, stupidity and sometimes some salvation, but without doubt the key was finding a team of amazing people to create the event with.
Finally and perhaps most importantly, it comes downs to hundreds of like-minded folk who came together at Beach Break Live 2007 and rocked each others worlds – the vibe was truly off the hook!
2008 - Dragon Slaying & New Friends

Following year 1, we made a successful (and surreal) appearance on The BBC’s Dragons Den. At the same time we had the fortune of meeting the splendid folk at Outgoing. The opportunity to partner with them signalled the beginning of something beautiful, so we conducted a rapid hand break turn, said no thanks to the cash money from the Dragons, moved home and office to Manchester and leapt in bed with the Outgoing crew.
2008 was more than any of us could have expected. From the humble days of 2007 to 5,000 students, big bands and a BBC film crew, it was a pleasant shock to the system! This was the year we really knew something had been born. We couldn't have been luckier with the sun kissed days and starry nights or again the crew of people that came together to help us pull it off .. 'The vibe was amazing...... the bands loved you, the sun loved you, you loved each other and god damn it WE LOVED YOU. We're all in love. It's the summer of love all over again! Let's get naked'. We stand by these words.
2009 - From Cornwall to Kent

Celebrations all round! Everything set for a 3rd year in Cornwall. A new 10,000 capacity location close to perfection, all tickets sold – big fat smiles plastered on everyone's faces! With just days to go before the event, a totally unexpected and unprecedented thing happened. A law designed to keep people from camping in Cornish hills was resurrected and the permission to host the event denied…..!!! BUT with the words of The Beastie Boys singing in our heads... ‘You have to fight, for your right, to party!’ we would not be beaten....
After coming face to face with the prospect of extinction, we followed our animal instincts and headed across the UK in search of safety. Bursting out of the undergrowth amongst the rhino’s, tigers, monkeys, lions and a whole host of other completely splendid looking creatures, Beach Break Live erupted in the blossoming safari spectacular of Port Lympne in Kent.
The response from Beach Breakers and our artists and crew was outstanding! You kept your faith….. and we delivered the goods. Not only did we move across the coutry with days to go pulling off a UK first, BBL 2009 won Best Small festival in the UK Festival Awards. We still salute you all!
2010 - Back To The Beaches

For more than 4 years, the BBL mistrals had wandered the UK coast line on the quest to find the perfect home for the festival. With Cornwall outgrown, it was the mighty Red Dragon who revealed her best kept secret and the pursuit for beach breaker paradise ended. We discovered an untouched utopian land of unrivalled beauty... Pembrey Country Park (Carmarthenshire, South West Wales)
A private white sand 8 mile beach, 500 acres of woodland, a 130 metre outdoor dry ski slope, the longest toboggan run in Wales and horse riding on the beach.
Friends and Countrymen, Pembrey Country Park enabled us to create a festival like literally no other.
2011 - Fifth Year Spectacular

Returning to our new home with great anticipation we are met with something entirely new to Beach Break Live. Rain. Not ordinary rain, but relentless, livid, sideways rain. Dampen our undergarments it did, dampen our spirit it most certainly did not. Instead, the rain pushes us into the hidden venues across around the site, giving Beach Breakers a whole new festival voyage. Beach Breaker spirit untarnished, Gilgermesh smiled and released the sun rays once again.
As Magnetic Man closed main stage, hands in the air, dreams become memories and our attention at HQ turns again to next year.
