STUFF N FLEX

BBL about more than just music. We actively encourage seaside stuff ’n’ nonsense. Surrealism may not be everyone’s cup of zebra fur, but it certainly swings our chandelier.

Last year at Beach Break Live developed its very own sense of mischief and random fun. This year we are leading by example by introducing some carefully crafted chaos; curated by the esteemed Mr. Hugo Tracey, illegitimate lovechild of David Hasselhoff and Christopher Biggins, and Jimbo, his rib tickling, cute comedy nephew

Read on to find out about the Mighty Cornish Goblet, The Battle for the Beach (seach for UK's best student band), The Beach Beats Battle (seach for the UKs best student dance act), The Suft Championships, The Ecorace (a race to the festival with the lowest carbon footprint).... and much more!

Behold..... The Mighty Cornish Goblet

A quest for countryside courage! BBL 2008 will host the 1st ever Mighty Cornish Goblet. Demonstrate your Sheep racing determination and Pig tossing prowess at our very special farmyard Olympics. Events include hay bail hurling, scarecrow making, flying pig pinita and other crazy Cornish competition. Certain other weird competitive agricultural events will be held in The Barn.

Win prizes and the respect of your peers in this combined harvest of hilarity…

Who will lift The Mighty Cornish Goblet and garner the glory on mainstage?

The games will be spread over 3 days. Sign up at the festival to enter

Pimp My Human Sheep Grand Prix
Due to animal rights protestors storming the BBL HQ last week and holding our pet cat to ransome over the racing of pimped up sheep, we have had to put an end to our farmyard tomfoolery. We say whats the difference between horses, greyhounds and sheep? The smell....maybe! Anyway, we think it has worked out for the better. Sheep costumes and ridiculous obstacle courses willl be the toast of the day and with grand stand viewing, this will be the cream of the race season.

Cornish Fruit Golf Firing Range
Bananas, Oranges, Pineapples, Pasties. T off with your favourite / deadliest looking fruit missile and try to hit one of our random moving humanoids, 20 points for the saucy Nurse, 30 points for the drunk Vicar etc

The Mud Hole Show Down
An immaculately designed mud wrestling pit where people can settle grudges and battle for glory in 2 feet of Cornish sludge.

The Slippery Slide
Various strange and wacky races down this treachorous slope of doom. Arm bands, lassoo’s and budgie smugglers a must!

Toss a Weird Object
A pentathlon of throwing skills where competitors will have to master each of the specialised disciplines. The left handed pasty shot put, the welly hammer throw, the surfboard javelin, the toss the hay bail caber and the ultimate chuck the hay handful! (world record so far 927millimetres).

The Ecorace

A race to the festival… with a difference. Our fume free odyssey involves a joyful journey to Beach Break Live in the most efficient time BUT WITH THE SMALLEST CARBON FOOTPRINT. The victors podium will probably be possessed by a pogo-sticking, hitch-hiking, raft-riding, wind-surfing, hang- gliding, pedal-pushing group of Beachbreakers. More formula fun, than Formula 1, the Eco Race will be judged by taking into account distance travelled, maximum possible speed of mode of transport chosen, level of ambition and imagination - but most of all with a sense of humour.

The winning group will get a hero’s welcome, be wantonly worshipped during the main stage prize giving - and can choose an environmental charity for us to make a donation to. Additional prizes will be given for ingenuity / stupidity and for bringing the least practical item possible to Beach Break Live.

Thats it. Good luck, bon chance, may the seas be calm and the winds to your stern

To enter, send us your proposed mode of transport, the size of your group, where you will be travelling from and one of the team will contact you

Submit an enquiry to THE BIG ECO RACE.

BBL Surf Championships

Whether your a stander, sitter or just about to find out. This is the competition for everyone. The championships are much like any other international surf event of notoriety and cool, except it involves more inflatables and less strutting.

The two groups:

1) Advanced - competent standing
A celebration of the talent within our UK University surf socs and beyond. Take to the waves for Beach Break Lives premier surf event. Equipped with your tray of choice (boards can be provided), you will battle it out for prizes and respect. The competition will be judged by UK pro’s.

2) Beginner - It would be an accident (and probably dangerous) if I was upright
A slightly different tone of competition. When you hear the start gun, you will hurtle over to the pile of assorted inflatable’s (from crocodiles to the traditional rubber dingy), choose your weapon and then head for the thundering white water. Dressing up is encouraged. Keep an eye out for the BBL organisers who are particularly up for this one.

Entry can’t be made until tickets are purchased (see buy tickets page). Entry fee TBC. All after cost proceeds will be donated to the Charity Surfers Against Sewage

If you are interested in entering the surf championships click let us know which uni your from and roughly how many people would like to take part

The Fancy Dress Finale

As BeachbreakLive reaches a shuddering climax, and your (six) senses can take no more, along comes a party which allows you to quite literally hide!

Our Masked Ball heralds the return of fancy dress frolics and is the perfect opportunity to abuse paper mache and lay into the latex Dressing up is encouraged but not compulsory (but anyone who’s anyone will be) (so do) (or we’ll dress you)

Beach Life and Adrenalin pursuits

We have a private path down to one of the UK’s finest surf beaches. Here you can satisfy your outdoor cravings from sunbathing and volleyball to Surfing, Coasteering and Absailing.

Or if the sand gets in your knickers and you’d rather stay on site there will be plenty of other activities to keep you busy (watch this space for details)

Food and Drink

We take our mastication very seriously here at Beach Break Live as food is the stuff of life. We have done away with the over priced knob dogs to focus on locally sourced world foods – served at reasonable prices. Gone also is the warm beer, that tastes like watery wee and requires another student loan to lubricate yourselves with. At Beach Break Live we serve award winning local beers cheaper than any festival that we know of

The Ethic

Our approach to people and our planet is simple. We try to act fairly. For us this means striving to have a positive impact on society and the environment. Because this has been part of our ethic since the beginning everything at Beach Break Live has always been designed with this in mind. To learn about why and how we do this check out our ETHOS
More to come - keep checking back. Note* Some of the activities are license depending
